LTMD: THROUGH HIS EYES

Through His Eyes

Every little girl longs to be loved; as does every young lady; as does every older woman.

Years may alter age and appearance, but that one question still remains….

Where do I belong?

—————

To My Daughter,

You are wanted.

If I was limited to leaving you with three words alone, those three words would be quite near the top of my list, because those three words make all the difference in our lives as girls.  And it is those three words that throughout our lives will either encourage us to make wise choices or tempt us to make wrong ones.

Beautiful one I do not want you living a life filled with regrets.  So, imagine us curled up on a sofa, wrapped in duvets, laughing, chatting, drinking tea and, of course…eating fine chocolate together!

And from that place, here are some thoughts I would share with you…

I remember what it felt like to wonder if I was pretty, comparing myself to others who appeared more beautiful, hoping for the attention of a cute guy, hating certain features of my body, and sometimes feeling very alone, even in a room filled with friends.  I remember feeling very confused at times, trying to figure out life; who I was and who I wanted to be.  It was a dark place to be.

As a young girl I dreamt of my knight in shining armour coming to rescue me; I would wander through the woods behind our house, imagining a man beside me holding my hand and longing to kiss me.  At the same time I was so extremely shy that I wouldn’t even look at a boy, let alone have the opportunity to hold his hand!

Maybe you’ve heard a story in the Bible (Genesis 29:15-30) about a woman named Leah.  Jacob loved her younger sister Rachel and wanted to marry her, so much so that he worked seven years just to have her as his wife!  That is one love sick young man!!  But on the night of their wedding, Rachel’s father decided to trick Jacob and have his oldest daughter Leah come into the honeymoon suite with her face hidden, so Jacob wouldn’t know the difference.  Imagine Leah hearing Jacob say how much he loved her and wanted her…. knowing those words were meant for her younger sister, and not for her.  She was forced to sleep with, and marry, a man who didn’t want her.  She was being used in a cruel game of jealousy, with nobody caring that she the pawn was being humiliated and deeply wounded in the process.

The next morning when Jacob realised he had slept with Leah and not his beloved Rachel – he was furious.  He vowed to work another seven years in order to have Rachel.  Leah was not wanted…Rachel was clearly the chosen girl.

We dream of being Rachel, but often we feel more like Leah.

For a girl, the approval of her father is enormous.  Seeing love and acceptance in her father’s eyes will do more for a young girl than even the embrace of a loving mother.  It is the father’s ‘well done’ she longs to hear and his approval she wants to see.  Yet many daughters grow up never hearing their fathers cheer them on – – the eyes from their fathers speak words of another kind.

So how can we know what God, our Father in Heaven, really believes about us?  His actions show that He loved the world (this includes you by the way!) so much He allowed His only Son to die in our place, so that the separation between us and God could be removed (John 3:16).  He has sent angels to guard us (Psalm 91:11); He has given us everything we need to live a life of freedom (John 8:36); He has promised never to leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5); He has given us the Holy Spirit to be with us and help us everyday know what to do (Romans 8:11); He has specific gifts to give each of us (1 Corinthians 12); He has even promised us a life beyond anything we could dream or imagine! (Ephesians 3:20; John 10:10)

This shows a Father Who absolutely adores you!  This is a Father Who looks at you with such love in His eyes He can barely contain Himself!

To know what He thinks of you, simply look at what He has done for you.  When He looks at you, He sees LOVE; and beauty; and relationship; and joy in the beautiful girl He has created.

He had plans for you even before you were born, and His desire is to see each and every one of His amazing plans for your life come to pass!  Think of that!

Those are the eyes watching over you — on your good days, and on the days when loneliness cuts too deep for words.  Those are the eyes which changed my world from darkness to light.

Regardless of what happened in the past, today look into His eyes and see arms open wide, accepting you – welcoming you.

Oh my beautiful Daughter, if I could offer you one word of advice as I finish this letter, it would be to passionately pursue a relationship with your Creator – learn to recognise His voice, to know His leading, and to see into His eyes – for out of that relationship will grow true confidence, and out of that confidence will grow your purpose, and out of that purpose will become beauty which not only attracts the world’s eyes to you, but allows you to draw the world’s eyes to Him.

Girlfriend – thanks for the chocolate and the chat!

You are beautiful.

Much Love,
