OUT & ABOUT: LASH FABULOUS AT LARA LASHES

It’s no secret eyelash extensions are a growing trend sweeping the UK! So we headed down to Clapham’s leading Lash Salon, Lara Lashes to put this to the test.

Lara Lashes offer a range of professional treatments from eyelash extensions, LVL, threading and tinting.

We decided to go for the Real Mink Fur Lash Extensions. They are featherlight and natural looking, and up to 300 lashes are applied to give you a soft, feathered look. Don’t worry, no minks are hurt in the process, the hair is harvested by gentle brushing.

Upon arrival I was greeted by a smile from the beautician who would be applying the lashes. I was offered a drink and asked to fill in a form, stating my current health condition determining if I was suitable to go ahead with the treatment.

After this I was taken to my bay where my lashes were to be applied. We discussed the length of the lashes I wanted and were all good to go.

This particular treatment lasted around 120 mins. Each mink fur lash was applied directly to each of my individual lashes, creating a thicker look. They are semi-permanent and shed naturally as my own lashes would.

I feel asleep during the application (that’s how peaceful it was) and woke up with lovely, natural, full lashes. The lashes lasted for around two weeks and I loved waking up with thick and full lashes each morning. Ready to go – literally! They make a real transformation to your eyes and you need little make up application to look dolled up.

It is also important to note that at no given time should you pull or attempt to pluck the lashes off. This will damage your lashes. If you do want the lashes removed, return to the salon to get this done professionally.

We caught up with the founder and brains behind the Lara Lashes, Faye Lara – here’s what she had to say…

1. What was the inspiration behind Lara Lashes?

I first came across eyelash extensions when working as a make-up artist for weddings and special occasions. I learned the skill and the feedback I had from clients was so positive that I felt that this would be a fantastic service to offer more widely. Hence Lara Lashes was born! My aim with the business is to provide only the very best in eyelash extensions time after time.

2. How much do your lashes range from?

The eyelash extension sets range in price from £65 for a Half Set of lashes to £110 for a luxurious Real Mink Fur Set. Maintenance services are between £40 to £50.

3. What are your favourite lashes? Mink or Synthetic?

What I love about eyelash extensions is the fact that so many different looks can be achieved depending on which lash you choose. Personally I am a fan of synthetic lash extensions for day to day wear as I love to wear dramatic eye make up and thus these lashes can really compliment that look, but occasionally I do love a bit of luxury for special occasions and hence real mink lashes are just perfect!

4. Is getting your lashes done a luxury or necessity?

I think having eyelash extensions often begins as a luxury, but often becomes a necessity as once you have tried them it’s hard to go back! They are so easy for every day glamour. You can just wake up and go – no fuss necessary!
