BABY SHUT EYE: BABY SHUSHER

March 2nd, 2017 / Stephane

By The Guilty Mummy

I might have said this once or twice before, but what is it that us mums crave the most? Aside from the health and wellbeing of our children that is? It’s sleep right? I don’t think any one enjoys being sleep deprived no matter how much they love their child and I’m pretty sure that if you have been through it with your baby you would have tried EVERYTHING to help them sleep!

My second baby has just turned 6 months old and has always been a terrible sleeper. For the last 3 months I have sat awake during night feeds desperately searching for “the answer” and land on that trick that will make him sleep. During my late night (or early morning searches) I came across the Baby Shusher and its wonderful reviews so I knew that I had to give it a go!

Baby Shusher LLC was founded by Chad & Katie Zunker, who birthed the product out of their own personal desperation at home while raising their three little girls. The Baby Shusher is doctor-approved and a thoroughly tested technique designed to break a baby’s cry spell and engage their natural calming reflex. The rhythmic shush reminds baby of being inside mum, where they were inundated 24 hours a day with loud sounds of blood flow and other in utero noises (up to 95 dBs, or the sound of a very loud vacuum cleaner).

As it turns out my baby decided to happily settle for his naps and sleeps the week before my Baby Shusher arrived. Although having sleep again was amazing I was disappointed that I couldn’t test the baby shusher for sleep. When it arrived I looked at the packaging and it explains that this product can come anywhere with you to help soothe your baby. I suddenly realised that just because my little one was sleeping it didn’t mean that we couldn’t use it to soothe his feisty nature. He hates the car, he hates being changed after his bath and around the time that the Baby Shusher arrived he was fighting a respiratory infection meaning that he was miserable all day and only wanted me.

After a long day of dealing with a unwell 6 month old I decided to open it and turn it on. Almost immediately my baby stopped crying. He was curious and interested in it, but settled quickly and quietly in my arms. He almost dazed into space and seemed to really enjoy the recording. He sat with me for about half an hour completely calm. No wriggling, no crying just cuddled up.

The next test was to try it after his bath time. He absolutely hates being dressed after his bath and he usually screams the house down until we are finished. As soon as I put him on the changing table I turned the Baby Shusher on and we had our first post bath routine without ANY crying! Hurrah!

Our next test will be on a long car journey but I can say confidently that I think it will work.

Whilst I cant review the sleep side of this product I can say that it has most definitely calmed and soothed my baby when he has been upset and I would feel confidence in its ability to soothe him during a bad night.

The Baby Shusher has two easy Timer Options that allow you to play the rhythmic shush for fifteen or thirty minutes.

It is small and compact so that if you want to take it out and about it is easily transportable. I would happily pop it in my babies buggy on a day out!

The Baby Shusher retails at £27.89 – get yours now HERE!
