FEATURE: What 2012 Means To Me

August 7th, 2012 / Stephane

Is it just me or don’t you feel as though 2012 has had a lot riding on it. We have only just passed the half way mark, but there still seems like there is so much more to come. Living in East London and seeing the transformation it has undergone over the pass years (and especially the recent months) has made me realise the size and extent of the event London is hosting. So whilst the UK accommodates the greatest sporting event in history and homes some of the most talented sports people the world has ever seen; it probably is an appropriate time to do some self-reflection and evaluation. I may not be a world class athlete but 2012 is still very significant and my perception of the year has to be similar to those going for gold.

CHANGE

‘In order to get something you have never had or be somewhere you have never been you have to do something you have never done and go places you have never ventured’. This quote is true in so many ways but its paramount that the change begins with
yourself. This requires courage because positive change is never easy but sometimes it’s the only way to gain some sort of momentum to propel you into the right direction.

PERSEVERANCE

Whatever happens, do not relent. I am not trying to encourage working endlessly but I am learning the importance of seeing life as a continued experience overflowing with invaluable lessons. And the only way we can get better is if we just keep on going. Keep pushing, yes there would probably be a couple of down days but just don’t stay there. ‘Rest if you must just don’t quit’.

ESTABLISHMENT

This is probably the word that means the most to me concerning 2012. For two weeks the world has seen the Olympic stadium in its completed state, but the hard work that has gone on behind the scenes is nothing short of admirable. We are in an age where patience is no longer seems to be an option and we want results instantly. But it has never been more important to lay healthy foundations whether its spiritually, physically, emotionally or in your relationships and career.

GOALS

When I was at school and writing goals the teachers always used to emphasise the importance of having proactive objectives and targets to support these goals. Unfortunately school also taught us how to put mortal limitations on our ambitions and cause us to doubt what we are capable of achieving. God often blesses us with huge dreams with the plan of watching and aiding us grow into them. The most important thing is that you work towards them and celebrate the progress and journey. Be your biggest cheerleader.

ATTITUDE

The way we look at life can have a serious effect on how we deal with situations. Inevitable there are going to be times when things don’t go as planned but one thing I’m learning is to continuously renew my mind in accordance with my heavenly Father. Having an attitude and mind set built on faith, hope and love can be extremely valuable. But above all this love, because God is love.
