FEATURE: OPEN YOUR HEART

May 17th, 2014 / Stephane

The heart is the most important organ in the body, although only the size of a balled up fist, it is the agent responsible for circulation of oxygen, nutrients and blood throughout the body. It is also a gateway to our our inner most places of vulnerability, and trust. Most thoughts surrounding the heart are not centered around its anatomic function, but its role in love. Why do we express love from our hearts, and not from our minds, or our liver? I believe we have developed the concept of loving from a place which gives life, because we subconsciously recognize life and love are directly correlated to God, as God is love and the giver of life.

The other day it occurred to me: “I have yet to experience the fullness of God’s love.” This troubled me “What did this mean God?” It was in this moment I realized my foundational outlook on love had been influenced by ‘the media’s’ models of love. Fairy tales, movies, magazine articles, people’s opinions on love have shaped my perspective since I was a little girl. I honestly can’t remember inviting God to show me what love was. God said “Let me love you- all of you.”

The are certain areas of my life I intentionally and unintentionally insist on keeping to myself, due to fear or shame. God has shown me, as with the natural body, every part of our spiritual body inadequately supplied with blood circulation- will one day perish.

What are the areas, you have not allowed love of God to touch because of fear or pride? Today I give you permission as Steffany Frizzell-Gretzinger from Bethel Church says: “to go to God with your stuff…He’s not afraid of it.”

Allow yourself to be known by God. Contrary to what religious folks will tell you,I promise you, God will never stop loving you.

I was astounded by an image from a frame of a film I recently watched where Earth sat safely within the solar system after a plan to destroy it had been thwarted. My thought upon seeing this was : “What really holds all of that together?”  The spirit showed me it is His LOVE which does so. While you and I can choose to replace our need for the love of God with vices, the universe simply exists in His love. Therefore our existence, whether we choose personally to accept it, thrives upon the universe abiding in the power and love of God. His love is the habitat of our universe and we are clothed within it- deep within it. If that doesn’t make God worthy of your heart- of your love- I don’t know what would.
