Is it just me or does it feel like time is actually flying by. We have just entered into the final quarter of 2012 and I often wonder where the previous nine months have gone. It can sometimes be a daunting feeling watching time go by, knowing that we have no control over it. It can reach a point where we can become so fixated on the future and specific goals we want to accomplish that we often overlook the gift of the present and allow ourselves to get overwhelmed with anxiety. The fear of the unknown is the thief of joy and fulfilment and it is in these times that it becomes vital to remember and acknowledge the Father who has engraved our names in the palms of His hands.
FAITH
The Saviour is always interceding on our behalf and praying that our faith will not fail us during the times we are deep in worry about what the future may hold. Yes, things may not be going exactly how you have planned, but you have to remember who your Father is, as it is usually during these times of uncertainty and when things are up in the air that our faith is often tested to build character. The eleventh chapter in the book of Hebrews is probably the best place to start to help keep your faith anchored. ‘Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen…’ (Hebrews 11:1). So although it may be a struggle to see how or when your promise will be fulfilled; do not forget the unshakeable Word from the God, who is forever faithful to complete the good work he has begun within you.
HOPE
Whilst keeping the faith it is also important to combat any doubt by remaining hopeful. When the target seems so far off remember the progress you have already made. Keeping hope alive is a proactive process and is what is required to keep the passion and desire burning. It is understandable when we grow disheartened after we don’t reach a particular goal by a certain time, especially when all our peers seem to be obtaining similar achievements. Firstly do not allow comparisons to steal your joy and secondly understand that the delay does not always imply a denial. Just refer to all the faith testimonials in Hebrews 11 to see how important it is to sustain our hope.
PATIENCE
Life becomes unfulfilling when we become so obsessed with fighting our way to particular points/positions in life and during this battle we often forget to live. Having a virtue of patience is not so much the practice of waiting, but the attitude in which we wait. Whether it is a breakthrough in your career, relationship, finances or mindset that you may be yearning for, take time out to ask yourself – what is your attitude like in the waiting room? Are you using this time as best you can and preparing yourself to receive? This time is not for the faint hearted and it requires a supernatural strength and endurance that can only come from God.
There will inevitably be times when you just feel completely lost and that is okay. Just find your rest and peace of mind in the One who is steering the wheel. Instead of worrying about the final destination, ask for directions on where to go or what to do next and this will also encourage that vital relationship with the Father across all aspects of your life. As much as it is important to reaffirm and remember the promise, please make sure you embrace the process.
