OUT & ABOUT: SAN FRAN TRAVEL GUIDE

March 31st, 2015 / Stephane

The city known for that signature red Golden Gate Bridge. San Francisco is a city where it’s all happening; from leading tech companies, eclectic cuisines stretching from China Town to Little Italy and not forgetting its beautiful bayside and remarkable architure.

We at Milk & Honey took the time out to explore this beautiful city and have complied a list of our favourite Hot Spots in San Francisco.

1. MEGABUS

Fishermans-Wharf_San-Francisco

Megabus.com, one of the largest privately funded providers of city-to-city express bus transportation. Not only is it affordable, it serves as a real bargain if you book your trip way in advance.

Operating from more than 120 major cities in North America from 23 hubs in all over the USA. If you are heading from Los Angeles to San Francisco this would be the best route for you to take. Overnight is always favourable as you avoid the Cali traffic and get a good nights kip too. The temperature of the bus is set by head office so be sure to bring a blanket to keep you warm if you’re not a fan of the AC. Having said that, riding at night was just right for us.

The best thing about all Megabuses’ is the fact they have wifi on board! Quick and efficient wifi that will allow you as a traveller to keep up to date with the world of social media and more. It also provides each seat with sockets, allowing those most important gadgets to be fully charged for the adventure ahead.

The San Francisco Segway Tour is the perfect tour for both those new to the city and San Francisco veterans. For the beginners, this 3 hour tour will offer you a fantastic orientation and give you an opportunity to see virtually all of the sites you’ve read about.

For the veterans, we’re positive you’ll learn new facts and stories about San Francisco that you’ve never heard. After riding with us we’re sure you’ll both agree that riding a Segway is the best way to see the ‘City by the Bay’.

The North Beach Food Tour focuses on tradition and culture through the story of the Italians and the Barbary Coast, which was the most notorious neighborhood in America during the Gold Rush boasting all of the saloons, and brothels and gambling halls.

The tour explores food through storytelling. For example, hearing the story of how Agostino, owner at Tommaso’s, went from being and Altar Boy with the pope in the Vatican in one of the holiest cities in the world to the Red Light District of San Francisco! From the Gold Rush, we coast into the story of the Italian Immigration – and of course, Domenico Ghirardelli arrived during that time and started his Chocolate Factory on Jackson Street. The Italians laid roots in North Beach and today its still very evident by its restaurants and great food! The tour is $86 per person.
