Sweet Things is a small but perfectly formed shop and bakery that sells—as the name suggests—deliciously sugary delights.
As you make your way to Sweet Things, you might forget that you are in London altogether. In less than five minutes, you will somehow be magically transported from pigeon-infested streets with the tell-tale signs of a good previous night out for some—to a neat, charming countryside town, that also happens (naturally) to have a charity shop that the Victoria Beckham donates her clothes to.
What is more, Sweet Things makes big pretty claims. It hails itself as ‘Primrose Hill’s best kept secret’ and also supplies baked goods to Selfridges, thus setting incredibly high expectations even before you enter the shop. I decided to take my mum with me to sample their new Afternoon Tea offer—since we both like chocolate, cake and conversation (in no particular order). We came ravenous but we certainly did not leave that way; neither were we disappointed. Not only were the staff very attentive, but the spread was also sumptuous and fresh.
Highlights came in the form of the moist, melt-in-your-mouth brownies and mini cupcakes (particular shout-outs to the Toblerone and Red Velvet flavours, yes—we remember you fondly). In addition, the sandwiches (ham and tomato; salmon and cream cheese) were simple in a way that almost seems to let the wonderful freshness of the bread take centre stage.
Sweet Things is celebrating ten years in business and it is not hard to see why: you are invited to indulge in lusciously yummy baked treats. Moreover, with Primrose Hill park a stone’s throw away, you can either jog away your afternoon of guilty pleasures or lie down on the grass in utter, mellow satisfaction.
