Easy tips for a stylish bedroom update

We’re now well into the new year, and with fresh starts and new beginnings often comes a yearning for an element of newness in the home. It’s common to feel bored of your bedroom from time to time (we do spend a large portion of our lives in there after all!), but giving your room an update doesn’t always need to be costly and time consuming. If your bedroom is in need of a stylish update ready for 2018, take a look at these top tips for some easy ways you can transform your space.

Create a feature wall

When you’re growing tired of your bedroom but totally redecorating your walls is out of the question, a feature wall can be one of the easiest ways to give the space an instant update. For this, you could either paint in a bright shade or decorate with some statement wallpaper in your choice of pattern. If you don’t feel like painting or wallpapering, however, you could even decorate the wall by transforming it into your own gallery. Buy some cheap photo frames in varying sizes, print some of your favourite artwork, and unleash your inner curator by hanging your frames in creative ways!

Add some velvet

Velvet is one of the biggest trends of 2018, so what better way to update your room in the new year than with some chic velvet furnishings? Decorate your bedroom with velvet curtains, cushions, or even a chair or sofa if you have space. If your bed is in need of a change, consider switching your current frame for a grey or black crushed velvet divan bed to give your bedroom the ultimate luxurious statement.

Dress your floor

Often the easiest and quickest way to bring new life into a room is with a beautiful new rug. If you have wooden floors, adding a coloured or patterned rug will make all the difference to the feel of your bedroom. Go for rugs made from soft material or even faux fur for a cosy update – your feet will thank you for it!

Decorate with greenery

If you don’t already have a few plants in your bedroom, now is time to start. Not only do plants and flowers look amazing as part of an interior set up, but they also purify the air quality of rooms, can help you sleep better, and generally improve wellbeing. Some popular choices recommended for bedroom use include the spider plant, bamboo palm and aloe plant, while lavender and valerian plants can be super helpful if you struggle to sleep at night.

Optimise space

For those that are looking for ways to make their teeny bedroom space appear larger in the new year, there are a few things you can do. If you haven’t already, find some decent storage options to keep all your bits and bobs together to avoid unsightly clutter. Another thing you can do is add mirrors to your bedroom to create the illusion of more space, by either grouping smaller mirrors together or investing in a floor length mirror – preferably one which takes up a large portion of a wall.
