What is Four Hundred Rabbits?
Four Hundred Rabbits is a new pizza joint in Crystal Palace, South London that is all about using sourdough to make their pizzas and fresh ingredients that are in season. Craft beer is also a big deal here.

Wait, so why is it called Four Hundred Rabbits?
Well apparently, there’s an old Aztec myth about the god of fermentation and the goddess of alcohol who got together and gave birth to 400 rabbits. Fast forward to today, the crew at Four Hundred Rabbits ‘celebrate fermentation and two of the best things it has given us, pizza and beer.’
Okay cool, so what did you have?
We tried out two different pizzas. One was topped with courgettes, pine nuts garlic, mozzarella, tomato and rosemary. The other was topped with Merguez sausage, butternut squash and burnt aubergine yoghurt. The courgette pizza was an interesting idea but was not a showstopper.

The Butternut Squash and Merguez sausage was an equally interesting concept but delivered a more scrumptious combination of flavours. There were hints of fennel that high fived the butternut squash in exciting, mouth watering ways.

The surprising favourite however happened to be the gorgeous butternut squash side salad, with red onion, pine nuts, feta and salsa verde. It was nothing short of flavoursome and had us making mental notes about how we might attempt the same at home.

What’s the best thing about this place?
The Hazelnut Sundae with salted caramel sauce and chopped hazelnuts was almost worthy of a marriage proposal. The other winner about Four Hundred Rabbits has to be its low key and local vibe. It feels like it’s the neighbourhood’s cool pizza place and I’m sure that for the locals particularly, it’s a great choice for when you don’t want to travel further into central London for good pizza.
