POEM: Why, Church, Why?

August 4th, 2014 / Stephane

Why, Church, Why?

Why do you hear more talk about “seeds” in many churches than you would in a garden show?

Why is it when seeds are mentioned it’s pretty much always about money?

When did “get rich or die tryin’” become a mantra?
Did anyone let 50 Cent know?

Why don’t churches labour over holiness as much as they do over tithing?

Why is prosperity declared from the pulpit but Christ’s sufferings whispered?

Why is poverty rebuked faster than pride or bitterness?

Which is more deadly?

Why have so many churches moved away from the Gospel?

What’s a church without the Gospel?

Why do people talk about “catching the Holy Spirit” like it’s a disease?

When did the Holy Spirit get reduced down to a mere feeling?

Has anyone read Acts?

If I don’t wail and shake, does that mean that I don’t have the Holy Spirit?

Why can’t we all just get along?

Is what day I go to church really a key salvation issue?

Why does me wearing jeans make me less holy?

Is God more concerned about my heart or my casual attire?

If I don’t want to turn to my neighbour and recite something the pastor just said, does that make me a bad person?

Why must we pretend to have it all together? Isn’t that why Christ came?

What is the point of having a form of godliness but then denying its power?

When did pastors become so many people’s “channel” to the Father—does Jesus not ring any bells?

If your pastor doesn’t prophesy over you, what becomes of your Christianity?

Strip away the music, the tambourines, the bible studies, the home groups, the church activities, what becomes of your Christianity?

Do you know God?

More importantly though, does God know you?
