FEATURE: Old Is New

September 1st, 2013 / Stephane

“While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer and night and day shall not cease” (Genesis 8:22).

This verse always reaffirms one surety that in this lifetime change is inevitable; whether we like it or are ready for it, change will come. September is probably my favourite month and it ushers in the beautiful Autumn season. If you are not a supporter of change simply take a look outside and see how nature and animals prepare and adapt to this impending seasonal change. Yes Autumn is probably a familiar place but it always welcomes in something new. I have definitely found myself in a place of constant change recently which has proven to be uncomfortable at times but what has kept me going is the fact that change is necessary to make what was once old, stale and stagnant now new, beautiful and fresh. Despite the growing pains growth is a beautiful thing. And here are a few fundamentals I have learnt along the way…

Accommodating change

large-1

In order for the old to be new a time of preparation and positioning is required. Otherwise we can end up overwhelmed and resistant. Probably the most important starting point is the mind. A changed mind with a new perspective is a fertile ground for beauty to grow.

Letting go

large-2

Fear of change is the biggest enemy of progress. Many of us have remained in comfortable areas and then question why we are not excelling. The old will remain old if you continue to hold on to it as if there is nothing better. As we get older we realise the importance of loosening our grip on certain situations. Go ahead and let go of that thing that is expired and trust Him to make what was once old completely new in a way that you have never seen before. There are divine appointments God has inscribed on your calendar that can’t be aborted but he needs you to let go and find restoration through an intimate relationship with Him so He can give you that new appointed seed.

The transition and the transformation

large-3

When on a rollercoaster we need something to hold on to for safety, stability and comfort. In the midst of the turbulent waves of change we need a focal point that doesn’t move or alter. Although God’s methods of ministering may change from season to season, He does not. God is the great I AM and He cannot, shall not and will not change. During the transition and transformation period the Living God will continue to be the omnipotent, all knowing and wonder working God.

Times and seasons

large-4

There is always a seed time and a harvest and it can become dangerous to sew and uproot at the wrong time. This is where we reap the benefits of our personal, intimate relationship with our all-knowing King through prayer and His word. God tends to work within our seasons and it is important that we remain in alignment with His cycles because in His time He will make all things beautiful!

And just like that, the old ashes will be exchanged for beauty. Your faith will bring about a change and transformation that is so thorough that you will no longer recognise what once was because the old is now the new and it will spring forth without you even fully comprehending it. Change will come whether or not you choose to move with it, we have to grow. But that change is evidence that we a living, anything that doesn’t change or evolve is usually dead. I mean come on, new things are always better than old anyhow! Position yourself to encourage change knowing full well that you are safe because you are holding on onto a limitless and consistent Father because when God is in it all things are new
