I had a recurring dream in which I possessed the power to fly. When gifted with this power- I was elated as, not only would seeing my family and friends in America be easier (and less expensive) but also, when the circumstances of my life rose to a level beyond my control: I could just fly away until I was able to come back and face those issues. However, when life became too difficult, or I was dueling with a seemingly unconquerable adversary desiring to flee through flight: I could only hover and never move beyond where I was. Why was that?
There are four aerodynamic forces of flight and they all revolve around the scientific law of inertia or Newton’s First Law of Motion which states:
An Object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by and unbalanced force.
The four forces of Flight are:
1) Weight: gravity’s pull on an object downward.
2) Lift: vertical upward force on an object.
3) Thrust: forward force on an object
4) Drag: slows an object or pulls an object backward.
In order for a plane to fly, it must have more “lift” than “weight”, and more “thrust” than “drag” to move forward. Flying depends on these forces working tandem, they are NOT mutually exclusive. Where is the direct correlation with you and I? We live in a society which opposes adversity, of any sort, rendering us weak and spiritually stagnant. Hovering-unable to fly, we pine away the hours preoccupied in creating fantasy worlds through social media etc., neglecting to own reality, the present: the gift of NOW. In turn, we are prevented from finding truth within reflection in the quiet of our thoughts, settling to swither instead of daring to soar.
I have learned opposition is essential for my me to fly but, how do I do that? The key is in your take off. God showed me a successful journey is dependent upon taking off from a runway paved with Amen. Amen is not merely a ritualistic ending to prayer, but it’s Hebrew meaning is: “let it be so”. Surrendering to God’s plan from the beginning by confronting the opposition before us with defiant assurance of God’s covering, gives us strength to endure. The power of God’s lift and thrust will always be greater than the gravitational force and drag weighing on us. I pray as the old hymn resounds, we will be persuaded “whatever [our] lot… it is well with [our] soul[s]”. Whatever needs to happen “let it be so”. Whatever it takes-AMEN!! Begin your journey with an Amen in your heart and you will reach your appointed destination in due season! Time for Takeoff! Let’s soar ya’ll! Be encouraged! God bless you!
But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
