FEATURE: Beautiful Imperfections

October 19th, 2013 / Stephane

Imperfection is often deemed as a weakness and beauty a strength. So putting these two concepts side by side can create a powerful oxymoron; one that brings us to the humble realisation that we are fully human yet completely accepted and loved. At times we will find that it is not even our imperfections that are the problem but our misinformed perceptions of beauty which often stops us from receiving the full revelation of how Heaven views us.

A Designer’s original

There are two characteristics that are consistent when looking at designer originals. The first is their extremely expensive bespoke price tag and the second is the fact that no two garments are ever the same. You are invaluable and unique. To wish you were someone else would waste the amazing person the greatest Creative Designer made you to be. Your quirky differences are your personal trademarks and finishing touches.

From ashes to beauty

From the very beginning the intention was always beauty. Sometimes life happens and welcomes in imperfections and challenges that can go past cosmetic flaws, but even in those situations there is always the option of making things new. I want to encourage you to stop beating yourself up over that area in your life that never seems to flourish or blossom and present it to God with a simple invitation for Him to make it beautiful again.

Your weakness, His strength

The popular serenity prayer encourages the pursuit of discernment and wisdom to decipher between the things God needs us to change and the things we cannot change on our own accord. Understanding this puts us in a supernatural peace as we begin to receive the joy that accompanies being in the right standing with our Father. So before we take on the mission to eradicate all of our perceived imperfections we need to allow our minds to be renewed by the Truth that we are perfectly Loved by a perfect God.

Grounded and Glorified

Paul spoke about the thorn in his flesh that prevented him from being physically and mentally exalted beyond measure (2 Corinthians 12:7-10). Despite this hindrance God continued to remind him and us that His grace is always sufficient. Acknowledging and embracing our imperfections not only dresses us with confidence but also adorns us with humility as we realise the opportunity it presents for God to be glorified; because His strength is made perfect in our weakness.

In His time He makes all things beautiful! But remember that it may not always be the situation or imperfection that will change but often times it is our perception of self-worth and value that God will address. His love for you is so deep that He cannot sit back and let you believe in a lie that you are not good enough and rejected simply because you’ve allowed yourself to be defined by your imperfections rather than your beauty.
