COME FLY WITH ME: NORWEGIAN AIRLINES

July 1st, 2015 / Stephane

For many 20′ somethings, travelling is a burning desire, but often an unrealistic expectation due to costing. The notion of jet-setting and exploring the world outside is often on the top of our dream bucket list; so when I learnt of the first airline that offers budget international flights I had to get in on the action.

Recently voted the ‘World’s Best Low-Cost Long Haul Airline’ at the 2015 SkyTrax awards, Norweign Airlines is taking a lead in aviation for it’s high tech aircrafts, convenience and jaw dropping affordable prices to travel both domestically and internationally.

Norweign Air Review

Norwegian has been operating low cost, long haul flights from the UK since July 2014 with routes to New York, Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando. The airline also has a network of 28 European destinations on offer from London Gatwick, Birmingham and Edinburgh airports. It is also the second largest airline in Scandinavia and third largest low cost carrier in Europe.

So you’re probably asking the same question I did; why is it so cheap? Well their 787 Dreamliner aircrafts use less fuel and the saving is passed on to the customer. So not only are they environmentally friendly, they are making sure passengers get in on the deal too.

To add to the cost savings, flights are ridiculously cheaply priced as tickets do not come inclusive of food, blankets and all the add on’s you don’t factor into adding cost when travelling with other airlines. However you can save yourself a couple hundred and bring those items on board yourself. If that’s not for you, passengers can also purchase during the flight should they want to. At $4 for a bottle of water, the pricing is rather high, so if you do fly economy internationally with Norweign, it’s best to pack a good selection of food to keep you going the distance.

Norwegian offers its passengers the opportunity to fly premium on intercontinental flights between Europe, the U.S. and Asia; so I was delighted to fly premium from London to LA. One of the great advantages with this is the flexibility to change your departure date at no additional costs. In my case this was a big bonus.

My premium ticket granted me access to the Gatwick No.1 Lounge. I received a text a day prior letting me know I had admission and upon arrival was prepared for first class treatment for the remainder of my trip. I was offered complimentary food and drinks at the lounge prior to boarding, with fast internet access which is always a treat for me as I’m always online.

Next up it was time to board the airplane. With a premium ticket you are first in line, so off I went to my seat. I was offered a blanket, earphones and a drink as soon as I was settled. With great on flight entertainment, all contact with the cabin crew, entertainment and more is via computer screens – so the aircraft is completely tech savvy. Furthermore the leg room is extremely generous with a seats spaced 46inches apart.

Now plane food is nouriously known for being bad, so I was pleasantly surprised to see both the selection and presentation of what was offered to me as a premium passenger on Norweign.

The lunch meal also came with fresh cocktail prawn salad garnished with oranges and spring onions (Pictured Below). It tasted delightful and considering I am not a fan of airplane food, was blown away by the quality all round of what was offered to me.

Later on in the flight we were offered a second meal, which came complete with a chocolate brownie cake and chocolate sauce. A small quiche lorraine, salmon and a plain scone.

The great thing about this airline is that they offer both flexible dates and advance booking, at such great rates, undercutting the competition by half. So book in advance to get in on the great deals.

Norweign pride themselves in their 787 Dreamliner aircraft which is set to fly at 1.800 metres, which in turn reduces typical “jet lag” symptoms such as headaches and muscle pain. Their planes are built with soft LED lighting, thoughtfully balanced for leisure, work or rest; and also features large dimmable windows, more than 30 percent larger than today’s similarly sized aircraft. You’re really wining all round.

Norweign Air Review

A delightful experience all round, We have to give the Norweign Air experience a solid 5*! So if you’re looking to jet set this summer, both cost effectively and in style, flying Norweign comes highly recommended!
